If you asked someone who knows
me to describe me, you’d
probably get a different answer from each of them. There are
most likely common threads that you would see throughout, but
those are innate personality traits versus the type of person
I am. In other words, I have a wide array of interests and
passions and display them differently depending on the situation
or type of people that I am with. I like to think of myself
as someone with a passion for living—someone who enjoys the
here and now. I like to smile and laugh and I like to be around
others who smile and laugh. Live life, laugh often!
I have a passion for the “F’s”…
Food – good food! I love to eat it, cook
it, talk about, experiment with it, provide it for others, photograph
it, look at it, and try it! God made food for us to enjoy—why
not enjoy it to the fullest? It’s hard for me to understand
how everyone does not look at food this way. But as we all
know, some people eat to live and others live to eat! I am
definitely of the latter! Hence, the reason for writing, The
Hauser Diet: A Fresh Look at Healthy Living! |

| Fitness – I
can actually say that now I love to exercise. There are many
benefits to it – your
clothes fit better; you improve your life expectancy;
you are stronger; you are not limited by your body’s
condition therefore you can do more things; you look
better; you have more energy; you make friends who do
the activities that you like to do; you improve your
self-confidence; you improve your outlook; your stress
is reduced; and of course, you get to purchase cool exercise
gear that looks great! HA HA |

Faith – At
Caring Medical,
we see many patients who come here because they
are at the end of their ropes. They have nowhere
else to turn. Caring
Medical offers hope to the
hopeless. We treat the underlying cause of people’s
conditions—a novel approach that may have
never been addressed before. My personal belief
is that we all need the God of the Bible in our
lives. He offers us peace that we cannot get from
ourselves. His Son Jesus offers us even more—eternal
life. I believe that with my whole heart and know
that it makes me who I am today. My faith guides
me in all situations – hard decisions, sad
times, difficult situations, as well as the joys
of life. Knowing that God loves me and cares for
me helps me stay healthy and strong. It’s
something that I feel is instrumental to having
Family – We all have family
that drives us crazy or upsets us. But we also
have family who sticks by us no matter what happens,
through thick and thin. I have been blessed with
parents who love me, support me, are interested
in me, want to spend time with me, and are wonderful
caring people. My in-law’s are cut out of
the same cloth— they loved me as their own
child as soon as I met them. Merriam Webster’s
Dictionary defines family as “…a group
of individuals living under one roof and usually
under one head OR a group of people united by certain
convictions or a common affiliation…” What
can I say, you can’t beat family! They are
part of you, whether you like it or not. They love
you unconditionally and you do the same. |

| Friends – The older
I get, the more I realize the importance
of good friends. I remember my sophomore
high school teacher saying that when you
get to be his age (probably about 45 years
old) that you can count the number of “true” friends
that you have on one hand. I have really
been blessed to have great friends. Some
of them come and go, but others are there
with you throughout your entire life. They
are just as close to you as family. I love
my friends and they are very important to
me. Having a wide array of friends has allowed
me to grow as a person and widen my scope
of experiences. I am so thankful for each
one of them. Having friends means that you
have to open yourself up and not be afraid
to share who you are with them. It’s
worth it because you will get back much more
in return. |

Figures – No,
I am not talking about 36-25-36. Now
this is something that most people
think is really weird. I have my degrees
in Nutrition, but my minor is in math.
I love calculating things! I love writing
equations in Excel. I love learning
about Accounting. It’s my calling—I’m
all about the figures! I like to calculate
stats, percentages, and evaluate progress
based on numbers. Since this is what
I do on a daily basis now, I guess
this is a good thing! There is
power in numbers! If you can’t
measure it, you can’t change
it.
Fun – Life is
short. We all know that, but I think
that the older we get, the more we
realize that. Once you have lost someone
you love, you definitely come to appreciate
this even more. We really should look
at each day as a gift. So why would
you want to walk around with a sad
face or an angry frown? Life’s
fun! People are fun! Laughing makes
you feel good. Dr. Lee Berk and
fellow researcher Dr. Stanley Tan of
Loma Linda University in California
have been studying the effects of laughter
on the immune system. To date their
published studies have shown that laughing
lowers blood pressure, reduces stress
hormones, increases muscle flexion,
and boosts immune function by raising
levels of infection-fighting T-cells,
disease-fighting proteins called Gamma-interferon
and B-cells, which produce disease-destroying
antibodies. Laughter also triggers
the release of endorphins, the body's
natural painkillers, and produces a
general sense of well-being. Huh? Don’t
you want a little of that? |

Fashion – Along
with food, I love clothes! Clothes
are a means of expressing your
individuality. Studies show that
the externals, such as clothing,
are a mirror of the inner person,
a reflection of the heart. I
was researching this topic online
and came across a “quiz” that
described your style of dress.
So, of course, I took it. I’m “Classically
Cool”—how about that?… “all
about the things that never go
out of style, from little black
dresses to comfy-cool khakis.
Your sweet and smart clothes
match your personality. Play
it up in: a classic charm necklace
or a super-luxe pair of perfectly
fitted jeans.” Your
clothes say a lot about you.
People judge you by what you
wear. I’m not saying that
we all have to wear the latest
fashions or follow the latest
trends. What I am saying is “look
good = feel good about yourself.” To
me, dressing for success in life
is just as important as eating
and exercising for life. It has
a positive impact on your self-image,
the way others perceive you,
and is an outward example of
who you are inside.
All of the above musings are just a different way of describing
myself…hope you found it a little interesting…for
those of you who just like to read a list—here’s
something for you:
• 2nd daughter of three daughters of Lura and Dick Boomer
• Raised in Waukegan, IL
• Raised with strong family values and integrity.
• Dad is a retired chemist and mom is a retired school teacher.
• Learned a lot from both of them—dad taught me to
love sports— particularly pro baseball and
football, as well as participating in sports including
baseball, track, tennis, and bicycling. I also learned how to paint
a house, mow the lawn, and how to calculate complicated calculus
and chemistry problems. My dad is a saint. He is one of kindest,
caring, and compassionate people I know. I am hoping that just
a little of that rubbed off on me.
• Mom taught me how to run a tight ship—whether it
is in the home or
on the job. I learned organization, list-writing, prioritization,
and
multi-tasking. My mom is also a great cook and can fix anything.
So I learned how to cook, sew, and unplug a toilet! She is a
problem-solver, driven to complete anything she sets her mind
to.
She is strong-willed and accomplishes whatever she sets her mind
to. I believe that she strongly influenced me in
this area and has helped me become who
I am today because of these values she instilled
in me
early on in life.
• Graduated from University of Illinois with an undergraduate
degree in Hospital Dietetics and from Eastern Illinois
University with a Masters
in Nutrition.
• Worked in the hospital setting for 10 years prior to working
at Caring Medical. My jobs included a wide array
of areas including, the liver transplant unit, the
bone marrow transplant unit, the pulmonary ICU, the
gastroenterology department, the medical and surgical ICU’s,
and the Nutrition Support team. Each of my jobs involved
teaching masters degree students which I always enjoyed
very much. My hospital experiences gave me a tremendous
amount of medical knowledge which has enabled me
to run a one of the largest natural medicine
clinics around, starting from ground zero and building
it every step of the way, performing each and every
job at some point along the way
at this clinic.
• CEO of Caring Medical and Beulah
Land Nutritionals: I have worked at these jobs now for
14 years—it’s hard to believe that that much time
has gone by already! From a four-room tiny office, to having
a large clinic with 16 staff members and a lot more space! I
love what I do—I love the people I work with and have a
passion about what we do at Caring Medical. Hope to see you here
some time!
