| We then headed
for Cortona on our next day of cycling. We biked on some flatlands
to Monte San Savino, rolling through Val di Chiana, with a final
huge climb to Cortona. It was a tremendously windy day that day.
So even though we finally rode some flats, the head wind was
very strong requiring us to ride in a line and draft off one
another. Ross was a great puller that day! |

Here’s Ross and I riding together… |
| The tour guides
provided us with a beautiful picnic lunch which was much needed
after a HUGE climb to get to our destination. The lunch consisted
of the local favorites – such as olive oil, olives, fruit,
buffalo mozzarella and tomatoes…fantastico! – along
with wine tasting from a local vineyard! WOW! |
| The food in Italy
was always fresh, no pesticides/chemicals in the food, wine,
or olive oil…I for one, felt absolutely great eating these
Mediterranean delights! It’s right up my Hauser
Monkey Diet alley! |
| As many of you
probably already know, gelato is the national dessert of Italy.
Just kidding…but you will see gelaterias all over the
towns of Tuscany. Here is a picture of one of them. We enjoyed
many a cup of gelato after a hard climb on our bikes! |

Here’s Ross getting some well-deserved
gelato after a hard morning
of riding! Ooh, refreshing! |
| The fresh food
shops with Italian delicacies were scattered throughout all of
the cobblestone streets in every Tuscan town. I fell in love
with these shops providing fresh home made pastas, salamis, cheeses,
wine, and olive oils… |
| The pizza in
Tuscany was out of this world too! They made the crusts with
whole wheat flour and rolled them very thinly. The ingredients
were fresh and not swimming in grease and meat. Here were two
that were particularly delicious – artichokes/olives and
pear/gorgonzola/walnut pizza! |

Here I am after a particularly difficult day
of climbing towards
Arezzo—rewarded with delicious red
pepper and zucchini pizza! |
